Nose shape
The height of the bridge and the shape of the tip.
Start here
- What does it change?
Changing the height of the bridge and the shape of the tip using cartilage, bone and implants.
- Is there anything short of surgery?
Yes. Filler is used to build up the bridge. But the nose is the site with the most reported vascular complications from filler.
- Can it be undone?
Filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase. Surgery cannot be undone, and revision is harder than the first operation.
There are no numbers and no citations in this box. What has been established, and how far, is below.
The choice here usually starts as "filler or surgery." The difference is not the size of the result but whether it can be undone.
Filler can be dissolved; rhinoplasty cannot. In exchange, filler can build up what is low but cannot reduce what is large.
And the nose is where filler is treated most carefully. Blocked vessels have been reported to cause skin necrosis and, rarely, loss of vision, and the nose and glabella are where those reports concentrate. The filler page carries that material.
Revision is not the same operation again. Revision rhinoplasty reopens tissue that has scarred and lost blood supply, and there may be too little cartilage left, so rib cartilage is sometimes taken. It is worth reading that sentence while choosing the first operation.
