Shape

Eye shape

Double eyelid, epicanthoplasty — changing the shape and length of the eye.

Start here

What does it change?

Creating a crease in the eyelid, or changing how far the eye opens at its corners. Skin and muscle; no bone.

Is there anything short of surgery?

None. This site records no evidence that anything topical or non-surgical creates an eyelid crease.

Can it be undone?

Suture methods leave room to undo. Incisional methods and corner surgery cannot be undone — removed skin and opened corners do not come back.

There are no numbers and no citations in this box. What has been established, and how far, is below.

The most common mix-up here is between "I have no crease" and "my eyes don't open well." They are different problems with different answers.

  • Double eyelid surgery creates a fold in the eyelid skin. It leaves the opening force alone
  • Ptosis correction adjusts where the muscle that lifts the lid attaches. It changes force, not the line

Whether a sleepy look comes from skin or from muscle decides which operation applies. That call belongs to a clinical examination, not to this site.

Corner surgery is about length. Epicanthoplasty and lateral canthoplasty widen the opening. They are especially hard to reverse, and the inner-corner scar sits where it can be seen.

Lids that droop with age belong elsewhere. Skin that has stretched and hangs, or a hollow under the eye, is under eyelid aging. Same eye, different cause, different operation.

Options before surgery

Used for the same concern but not surgical. These do carry evidence grades.
